Safely Get Rid of Fruit Flies!

August 13, 2018

Nobody wants to see them, so they don’t get to be pictured.

Using lemongrass, peppermint, lavender, basil or thyme essential oils mixed with water, sprayed in areas where fruit flies collect, including window screens, will repel them away. This is a marvelous solution if you’re spraying areas where cats don’t go.

Unfortunately, except for thyme oil, these essential oils that repel pests can be toxic for cats.

Here are solutions that are cat-safe.

Growing fresh herbs like basil, lemongrass or thyme, or keeping lavender plants around, will help keep fruit flies from hanging out places we prefer they stay away from.

Another solution is to keep basil or thyme leaves sprinkled about cats’ areas, where fruit flies might be a problem. An alternative for places you may prefer spraying, such as cat’s feeding area bases or beds, is to boil any of these herbs mentioned, strain it and cool to use in a spray bottle.
